Thailand welcomes two new Women’s clubs

Rugby League in Thailand has welcomed the formation of two new Womenโ€™s Rugby League clubs this week, the Eastern Mermaids and Petchaburi United.

The Mermaids and United join the Moon River Wildcats and the Mukdahan Blue Birds who were formed in 2019 and are based in the Isaan Province, bringing the total number of Womenโ€™s Rugby League clubs in the Kingdom of Thailand up to four.

The Mermaids are based out of Rayong which sits on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand and were formed by Banglamung Broncos player Stoon Parunchai, whilst Phetchaburi United team is based out of the town of Phetchaburi or Phet Buri in southern Thailand and previously only played Rugby Union Sevens.

The two clubs made their Rugby League debuts playing against the touring A.S. Ayguesvives XIII team from France at Thonburi University in Bangkok last week.
