The continued development of Women’s Rugby League in Thailand received a significant boost last fortnight with the A.S. Ayguesvives XIII team from France conducting a 10-day ‘Goodwill tour of Thailand’.
The tour saw the club from the commune of Haute-Garonne, just outside of Toulouse, conduct a series of Development clinics before helping launch Bangkok’s first Women’s Rugby League clubs.
Starting in the island of Ko Tao in the Surat Thani province, the visitors conducted three training clinics, targeting primary and secondary schools in the region. The clinics, which introduced the basics of the game, attracted more than 100 participants across the three sessions, including teachers and officials in what was the first introduction to Rugby League held on the Island.
Following the Ayguesvives short stay in Ko Tao, the team travelled to the Thai capital of Bangkok to help launch Thailand’s newest Women’s Rugby League teams, the Eastern Mermaids and Phetchaburi United, and take part in the Steedan Asia International Nines at Thonburi University.
The A.S. Ayguesvives XIII’s tour was supported by Steeden Asia, ASEAN Rugby League and NRL Asia.
