Registrations for the 2019 Ethnic Rugby League season are now open, with interested players, teams and officials encouraged to express their interest.
Run by the Counties Manukau Rugby League, the competition offers an opportunity for players of Asian or Indian heritage to showcase their skills and learn the code with other players of similar heritage in a short competition running from late September.
First played in 2013, the Ethnic Rugby League has traditional featured between three – four clubs each year, including the Counties Manukau Piranhas, Auckland Wasps, Central West GuardiaNZ, the Auckland Asian Eagles and Auckland Asian Dragons.
The 2018 competition was won by the Dragons club, defeating the Counties Manukau Piranhas 20 – 10 at Norana Park in Mangere.
The 2019 season will see a youth competition, targeting 14 – 17 years olds, added to the open age competition, which will run from September 29 to October 27.
Coaches, Managers and Trainers courses will be provided to any interested individuals who want to get involved, but not play.
