One of Victoria’s strongest Rugby League clubs, the Waverley Oakleigh Panthers, are set to take part in the 2019 ASEAN International Nines in Pattaya this November.
Formed in 1976, the Waverley Oakleigh Panthers have not only been one of Victoria’s most successful Rugby League clubs on the field, but have gone on to produce a number of professional players who have made their mark in either the National Rugby League or Super League, including the likes of Drury Low (Canterbury Bulldogs, Canberra Raiders), current England Rugby Union international, Denny Solomona (London Broncos, Castleford Tigers), and current NRL star, Mahe Fonua (Melbourne Storm, Hull FC, Wests Tigers).
The Waverley Oakleigh Panthers will join teams from Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Papua New Guinea at the second iteration of the International event.
The ASEAN International Nines will take place at Horse Shoe Point Stadium in Pattaya on November 9. The 2018 tournament featured teams from Australia, Thailand and Laos, with the Jamberoo Superroos emerging as champions.
